She has become known as a powerhouse vocalist and is of
the new school Generation but captures the essence of
traditional gospel and “church” music at its best. From her
stylish fashion to her hard working drive and stamina, she is
one of the genres rising female vocalist positioning herself for
longevity in gospel music.
Monica Lisa was born into a talented family of singers. The
eldest of six children, she and her siblings were raised in
Wetumpka, Alabama, where they were inspired, encouraged,
and trained by their parents, the late George Bowen and
Pearlie Ellis. She began to minister in song and organized
Lisa Stevenson & Company in 1997 shortly after becoming a
licensed minister of the gospel.
Her true joy is just to be able to sing before audiences, but
Monica Lisa has a litany of achievements and experiences.
Her recent appearances include BET’s Dr. Bobby Jones
Gospel, Atlanta Live TV, Atlanta Gospel Choice Awards,
Sweet Auburn Festival, Rhythm of Gospel Awards, Gospel Heritage Praise and Worship Conference
and the Full Gospel Conference. Monica Lisa has been honored to sing with the legendary
Caravans, Kathy Taylor, Pastor Shirley Caesar, The Canton Spirituals, The Williams Brothers, Pastor

An esteemed milestone for Monica Lisa was to record “Lord Keep Me” (Day by Day), made a classic
by the legendary Caravan’s founder the late Dr. Albertina Walker and to minister the song at the
celebrated gospel queen’s home going service. Adding to this honor, Monica Lisa recently
collaborated in a duet with Evangelist Dorothy Norwood on her 2011 single “Just That Good”.
In 2007, Monica Lisa received two Atlanta Gospel Choice Awards nominations (New Artist of the Year
and Best Female Artist of the Year). She captured the Best Female Artist Award in 2008 and Song of
the Year Award in 2009 and was a recipient for the Be Sickle Smart competition for the Sickle Cell
Foundation, where her song “Lord Keep Me” is featured on the CD compilation project.

Distribution, she found herself with two Stellar Award nominations for Best New Artist and Traditional
Female Vocalist of the Year. She also landed a 2010 Ensound Music Award nomination for Best
Traditional Performance. Not stopping there, Monica Lisa was cast for an appearance in the Tyler
Perry movie Madea's Big Happy Family.
Monica Lisa is constantly touring and ministering in churches across the country but took a brief
break for her schedule to record her new live project that is set to release in the fall of 2011. She
finds time to stay active in the local and national Gospel Music Workshop of America (GMWA) and a
devoted member of the New Life International Family Church, where the Bishop Dr. Jeronn C.
Williams is her pastor.
Most importantly, she is the proud mother of four children, Qwenton, Khalon,
D’errica and Derrick, Jr., and a dedicated wife to Mr. Derrick Stevenson who is also her musical
director and producer.
